Pieces…

Blinded by infatuation I told her I’d look up at the moon and think of her.
And when the fog of lust lifted and she was gone, there was the moon, still reminding me of her.
Such a bright, shining, eternal celestial piece…
Songs that once got me smiling when she quoted a line or two my way,
Phrases and statements artists sang that seemed to get the feeling just right…
Now I skip over those tracks on my playlist, but I can’t bring myself to delete them, they are pieces.
I walk through familiar, haunted places that aren’t the same anymore, at least not without you.
The sound of your laughter echos through my mind as I drive along alone,
If I look over at the passenger seat, I can almost see you in that summer dress and the denim jacket, a bow in your hair, a smile on your face..
Lying next to you on your mama’s couch, aimlessly clicking from one channel to the next on a lazy afternoon…
Loud music, dim lights, my hands on your hips, close to you, lost in the trance of the beat, but never again.
Movie nights, horror flicks, you holding on so tight it almost hurts, but I wouldn’t complain, more pieces
A piece here, a piece there, she took a piece of me, and now you do too
